"Provide justice for the needy and the fatherless; uphold the rights of the oppressed and needy." Psalm 82:3

Jerry's Story

Jerry was thrown in the trash by his father when the public hospital refused to accept him as an abandoned child.  The hospital retrieved him and he was left in a bed untouched for a year and a half.  Even though he was in the malnutrition ward of the hospital, he was still fluctuating from 11 - 14 pounds.  Estimated age is around 3-4 years old and the hospital named him Jerry.  One Gift, One Child took custody of him in January 2017 having no idea what was in store.  One step at a time meant taking him to a top notch private hospital in Port au Prince to save his life.  He was dying with aspirated pneumonia and a severe instestinal infection.

We were not sure Jerry would even make it.

But after 15 days of an amazing doctor and caretakers, he began to turn around.  After a week of very little change, one of the caretakers pumped her own milk and within 12 hours his eyes became alive.

After spending several months in the director's home, Jerry became a different boy.  With love and nutrition, he thrived.  This is where the vision of The Jerry House birthed from.  A little boy who was thrown away but redeemed in to a family.  He now lives with his Haitian foster parents who love and protect him like their very own child.  He is happy all the time and he fills us with JOY.  He has gained 13 pounds and is doing very well in therapy.  Every child deserves a family, especially these precious ones who cannot fight for themselves.
